Contract teachers do not intend to return to classes until their demands are taken into account by the transition authorities.

In the Kankan region, the slogan of boycotting the start of the school year remains maintained. This was announced this Sunday, October 8, 2023, by the vice-coordinator of contract teachers in the Kankan region, echoing the decision of the national coordination of contract teachers in Guinea.

“First, since the opening of classes on October 3 until today, Kankan’s contract teachers have not responded. Our teams visited the establishments for an inspection, but the findings revealed that the contract workers were not present. We sent a delegation to Conakry. As long as the delegation does not turn around, there will be no reopening for contract teachers until further notice. The decision still stands. We don’t want to see any contract workers teaching the courses. We will not resume classes if our demands are not taken into account. It’s clear and we are firm on that,” said Namory Camara.

“Any teacher who is apprehended in a classroom situation, we will trace his name to Conakry and during the pay, I am not saying that these teachers will not receive their money, but they will be dragged behind for having betrayed us. We ask these contract workers to follow the strike slogan until our demands are taken into account”.

Contract teachers are demanding, among other things, their integration into the public service and full payment of 9 months of salary arrears.
