Safety Kamren Curl has agreed to a lucrative two-year contract with the Los Angeles Rams, making a move from the Washington Commanders. The deal, worth $8.75 million initially, can potentially reach up to $12.75 million, according to sources speaking to ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Friday.
Curl, known for his versatility, excelled in various roles during his time with the Washington Commanders. He played both safety positions and even took on a hybrid safety/linebacker role, which earned him high praise from the coaching staff. His ability to handle multiple positions made him an integral part of the team’s defense and secondary.
While Curl’s strength lies in preventing big plays rather than creating them, he did have a successful rookie season in 2020. As a seventh-round pick, he started 11 games and managed to intercept three passes, returning one for a touchdown. However, he has yet to replicate that level of success in terms of interceptions since then, with one forced fumble being his only other defensive contribution.
At just 25 years old, Curl had a standout season last year, achieving career highs in total tackles (115) and solo stops (74).
It’s worth noting that his low draft status is attributed to the challenges posed by the pandemic. Coaches believe that had Curl been able to showcase his football knowledge through visits to teams during the offseason, he would have been selected several rounds earlier.
NFL Network initially reported Curl’s move to the Rams, further solidifying his transition from the Washington Commanders.
