KAMILA Batavia is trying to penetrate the German music industry by releasing its second single, Als Ich Einschlief

“My music does come across as melancholic and sentimental, but personally I’m a bold and fearless person,” said Kamila Batavia, an indie singer and songwriter from Indonesia who now lives in Hamburg, Germany.

After successfully setting foot in the Indonesian music industry with her first single Berakhir dan Berlalu, Kamila Batavia launched into the German music industry with her second single entitled Als Ich Einschlief or translated into Indonesian, Ketika Aku Tertidur.

The release of this second single is a bold step for him to take because this song goes once morest the stereotypical current of the music genre in Germany, namely upbeat pop-rock.

The song Als Ich Einschlief tells regarding a romantic relationship that does not find clarity so that dreams that cannot be achieved in real life are instead projected repeatedly in the dream world.

With poetic lyrics wrapped in rhetorical figures of speech and descending stepwise chord progressions in the chorus and bridge, the song Als Ich Einschlief creates an intense and emotional nostalgic nuance for the listener.

Compared to Berakhir and Berlalu which have ascending chord progressions in the chorus, the gradually descending chord progressions in the song Als Ich Einschlief are arranged by Kamila Batavia so that listeners can impressionistically get a picture of the gloomy feelings that result from dreams that never come true.

Still produced by Faizal Saputra, who also serves as an audio engineer, the song Als Ich Einschlief is thick with synthesizer, ambience and orchestral playing that is cinematic and dreamlike—as if taking the listener to a dream world.

Kamila Batavia not only created this song for her listeners in Germany, but for all lovers of sentimental retro-pop music wherever they are.

“Music is universal. Regardless of language barriers, with the range of tones and emotions conveyed by the singer, listeners can explore the deepest depths of feeling without having to understand each word,” he added.

Kamila Batavia’s courage to create sentimental retro songs amidst the repetitive electronic music scene in the German music industry proves her strong dedication to standing on her artistic path.

According to her, it is important for a musician and artist to be able to stick to what they are doing and not always follow the trend. Kamila hopes that her courage can be an inspiration for listeners and lovers of her work. (Z-1)
