UNITED STATES.- The American vice president, Kamala Harrisobtained this Friday the votes of delegates needed to mathematically become the nominee of the Democratic Party for the presidential elections on November 5.
Kamala Harris exceeded the threshold of 1,976 delegates necessary to confirm her as the party’s nominee this Sunday, although the virtual vote of delegates will not officially end until Monday.
Jaime Harrison, chairman of the Democratic National Committee (DNC), confirmed that the vice president received the necessary majority of votes from the convention delegates. She will be officially nominated once the voting is concluded.
Kamala Harris appeared immediately afterwards to thank the party for the trust placed in her and to assure that she feels “honoured” by the election to replace the president, Democrat Joe Biden, in the presidential race.
“I am honored to be the Democratic nominee for President of the United States. I will officially accept the nomination next week,” Harris said.
In a lightning process, Biden gave his support to Harris and in successive virtual meetings the delegateselected in the primary process, and who had committed their vote for the president began to declare their support for the vice president.
The DNC gave until Tuesday for other candidates to be presented, but finally Harris was the only candidate for the Democratic nomination and was therefore guaranteed his nomination, which will become official on Monday and will be staged at the Democratic National Convention that begins on the 19th in Chicago (Illinois).
