Kamala Harris to seek presidential nomination and thanks Biden for support

MEXICO CITY.- The American vice president Kamala Harris confirmed that he will seek the Democratic presidential nomination, after the president Joe Biden step aside and say that he will not seek re-election.

In a statement, Harris said she was “honored” to have received the Biden’s explicit endorsement and assured that his intention is to “earn and win” the Democratic nomination for president.

The statement comes hours after Biden announced he was withdrawing from the race to focus on the presidency, following the Democrat’s disastrous performance in the debate with Donald Trump on June 27 and intense pressure from the Democratic leadership to step down.

Harris thanked Biden for his “extraordinary leadership as President of the United States and for his decades of service to our country. His memorable legacy of achievement is unmatched in modern American history, surpassing the legacy of many presidents who have served two terms in office.”

The US vice president said that with his “patriotic act” of renouncing his re-election bid, Biden “is doing what he has done throughout his entire life of service: putting the American people and our country above all else.”

Kamala Harris promised to “do everything in my power to unite the Democratic Party – and unite our nation – to defeat Donald Trump and his Project 2025 agenda,” a Republican Party program that, in addition to mass deportation, promises to end abortion in the United States and from which Trump has distanced himself.

“We have 107 days until Election Day. Together, we will fight. And together, we will win,” he concluded.
