Kamala Harris celebrated her 60th birthday in a church in Atlanta

Harris urged the predominantly African-American audience at the church to stand up for empathetic values, while “others spread hate and sow fear and chaos.”

She did not mention the opponent Donald Trump by name, but no one in the large Baptist church had any doubt that it was him she was referring to.

Harris gave a conciliatory and sober speech to the enthusiastic audience, in which she spoke of the Good Samaritan and urged people to vote in the election and “shine in a dark age”.

The speech contrasted with Trump’s increasingly dark speeches recently. Among other things, he has called immigrants animals, threatened revenge against his perceived enemies, praised autocrats such as Vladimir Putin and called the United States a broken nation that he alone can fix.

– Where we go from here is up to us as Americans and believers. What kind of country do we want to live in – a country characterized by chaos, fruit and hatred, or a country of freedom, compassion and justice, she said.

McDonald’s-stunt

While Harris campaigned in the swing state of Georgia, Trump staged a stunt on Sunday at a McDonald’s restaurant in the town of Feasterville-Trevose in another key swing state, Pennsylvania.

He allowed himself to be photographed wearing an apron working in the french fries section and repeated his false claim that Harris’ account of a summer job at a McDonald’s restaurant during his college days is a lie.

He previously told Breitbart News that he wanted to work at the restaurant “just for fun” to make fun of Harris.

In recent days, both candidates, who are tied in the opinion polls, have sharpened their vocabulary and stepped up their efforts towards voters who vote in advance.

Lizzo and Usher

On Saturday, Harris campaigned in Detroit, the same day early voting began in Michigan, with the support of rapper Lizzo. Lizzo, who is from Detroit, made it clear that voting in the state, where small margins can decide the entire election, is crucial.

– This is the see-saw state of all see-saw states, she said and rejected that the US was not ready for a female president.

On Saturday night, she was joined by another music icon, Usher, who interrupted a tour in Atlanta to help Harris, and on Sunday it was Stevie Wonder who attended an event with her in the city of Jonesboro, Georgia.

The advisers are skeptical

Earlier in the day, Trump campaigned in Latrobe, Pennsylvania, where he claimed that Harris is to the left of Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders.

– You must tell Kamala Harris that you have had enough, that you can’t take it anymore. We can’t stand you, you’re a shitty vice president,” he said.

As the supporters cheered, he added: – Kamala, you’ve been fired, get the hell away.

Some of his advisers are beginning to fear that Trump’s sharp words could alienate swing voters.

Harris was also due to continue to Pennsylvania on Sunday, as well as Wisconsin and Michigan again, where she will campaign together with Republican Liz Cheney.
