THE VICE President of the United States (US) and Democratic presidential candidate, Kamala Harris, responded to a United Nations (UN) report that no food had entered the northern Gaza Strip in almost 2 weeks. Harris asked Israel to act immediately and facilitate the distribution of food and drink aid to the region.
“Israel must immediately do more to facilitate the flow of aid to those in need. Civilians must be protected and must have access to food, water and medicine. International humanitarian law must be respected,” he wrote on X in a thoughtfully worded statement -heart.
Humanitarian groups have raised concerns over months of man-made famine in Gaza. They say the shortage is caused by the Israeli military severely restricting aid flows to the besieged enclave.

“The Israeli military attacked civilian infrastructure and repeatedly forced local residents to flee,” the humanitarian group reported.
Meanwhile, rescue teams struggled to help victims of a fire in a refugee camp on the grounds of the Al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Hospital in Deir el-Balah following the Israeli attack.
Footage reportedly shows a large explosion and heavy fire emerging from the area.
Four people have been confirmed dead so far and at least 70 people have been injured, many of them in critical condition. However, the death toll is expected to continue to rise. (Aljazeera/Z-2)
