“He won’t be able to pull off any more tricks in the district league.” Such or similar statements were often heard regarding Lambrechten’s striker Bence Kalmar following his club’s promotion from the 1st Class Northwest to the District League West. The 36-year-old is already far too slow, according to many self-proclaimed experts. But Kalmar proved his critics wrong: “I’m in the shape of my life, feel in top shape and am fully motivated,” says the Hungarian, who scored 64 goals for SV Lambrechten in the last two seasons.
In the current district league season, the goalgetter, who is strong in the air, has already scored eight times in nine rounds – and has therefore played a significant role in the fact that the promoted team is currently laughing at the top of the table one league higher up and can dream of the state league.
Kalmar also scored yesterday, Sunday, in the 2-1 win in the derby once morest Union St. Martin/Innkreis. In the finish he scored the gold goal from the penalty spot (84th). “The championship title would of course be a dream. We want to win every game and we have a very strong team that I trust to do that. However, the district league is extremely balanced,” says Kalmar and adds: “But I’m also aware that the state league “It would be difficult for the club as a whole. In order to survive there, we would ultimately need more quality in the squad.”
Kalmar himself feels really comfortable in Lambrechten – and is already playing his eighth season there. The father of one son, who lives with his family in St. Martin im Innkreis, has been in Austria for ten years and has scored 236 times in the opposing goal.
