Kalavryta – Mitsotakis’ visit to M. Spilaio: He didn’t ring the signpost of the Monastery! – Absences discussed – 2024-04-03 07:09:35

The Mega Cave was the second stop on the Mitsotakis tour in Kalavryta. The prime minister saw first hand the result of the maintenance works of the Catholic Church of the historic holy monastery, which were implemented in the framework of the NSRP “Western Greece 2014-2020”.

In fact, the news also got out in the Great Cave, as the Kyriakos Mitsotakis was not welcomed by the abbot of the monastery and the members of the monastic brotherhood, who were absent.

The main reason for the absence had to do with the health of a priest, whom the abbot and the monks of the Great Cave wanted to support, but in any case, because we were not dealing with a simple arrival at the historic monastery, but with a prime ministerial visit , their absence was variously commented upon and – let’s not hide – was also linked to the recent “gay marriage” billfor which the vertical opposition of the Church was expressed.

Therefore, it is not excluded that the above absence is a symbolic movement of protest, a message to the prime minister himself and his ministers that as far as the controversial bill is concerned, the government “was not on the right side of history”. Besides, it was not only the abbot of the holy monastery Archimandrite Kallinikos who was absent yesterday, but also the Metropolitan of Kalavryta and Aegialia Mr. Ieronymos, the “Peloponnisos” newspaper had written regarding his non-attendance at yesterday’s prime ministerial visit due to long-planned commitments.

And two more details: First, the only rosary we saw yesterday in the Great Cave was Fr. Seraphim, who was also the one who opened the gates of the monastery. And second, the tradition of ringing the sign on the occasion of the arrival of the distinguished visitor was not observed. Can anyone say, of course, since all the monks were missing, who would ring the signpost? However, it should be noted that Kyriakos Mitsotakis was quite cheerful throughout the tour, while he also asked to be photographed with the students from the 2nd High School of Farsala who were on a school trip.
