Kalashnikov culture must be eradicated from Pakistan: Chief Justice

Chief Justice Qazi Faiz Isa remarked during the hearing in the Supreme Court that the Kalashnikov culture must be eradicated from Pakistan. A 3-member bench headed by Chief Justice Qazi Faiz Isa heard the case related to the stolen weapons.

During the hearing, Chief Justice Qazi Faiz Isa expressed anger at the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police for not asking about the license of the stolen weapons in the inquiry and remarked that it is a crime to keep weapons without a license and the police did not even ask the owner in the inquiry.

He remarked that the police did not even ask for the license from the person whose house the weapon was stolen from, the owner himself is confessing to the crime, 2 Kalashnikovs, 2 Kalashnikovs and a pistol among other valuables were stolen.

Qazi Faiz Isa further remarked that I was also offered to take license of Kalashnikov, drugs and Kalashnikov destroyed Pakistan.

He remarked that people with dark glasses carry Kalashnikovs, the police don’t dare to question them, thus no one in the world drives Kalashnikovs in big cars with dark glasses.

Chief Justice Faiz Isa asked the petitioner that where did you get the Kalashnikov from? If the IG is giving papers of such Kalashnikovs, why should not action be taken against them? We write to the Secretary of the Interior to return all Kalashnikovs and their licenses.

Expressing his anger, he remarked that if you go to school and market, you see people standing with Kalashnikovs, if you are afraid, stay at home, do you go out to scare people and show your influence?

The Chief Justice inquired that there are guards standing outside the houses with Kalashnikovs in Islamabad, how would one know if those with Kalashnikovs were terrorists or someone else?

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court has granted bail to Kashif, the named accused in the theft, on a bond of Rs 50,000.

The court sought the details of all licenses issued for prohibited weapons across the country from the concerned authorities.

The Supreme Court has issued notices to the Home Secretary, all Provincial Home Secretaries, Inspectors General of Police.

Apart from this, the court also issued notices to the Attorney General and Provincial Advocate Generals and directed them to send a copy of the decree.
