KAI Commuter requires funding support from the state capital participation (PMN) for the 2025 Fiscal Year of Rp1.8 trillion. This is to maintain the financial capacity of KAI and KCI in carrying out government assignments, namely the implementation of public service obligations (PSO), especially KRL Jabodetabek passenger transportation.

The request for PMN funding support of Rp1.8 trillion for next year. It will be used to increase the KRL fleet currently owned by KCI.

“The addition of KRL must be done because according to projections, passengers continue to increase. The increase is approximately 6% for each year. We project it in 2024-2027. And we need to do this to avoid overloading this transportation,” said KAI Commuter President Director, Asdo Artriviyanto, during a RDP with Commission VI of the Indonesian House of Representatives on Tuesday (9/7).

On the other hand, the age of the KRL owned by KCI is currently on average between 30-55 years. He also explained that when his party imported, the age of the trains that arrived was between 25-30 years.

If the procurement of facilities is not carried out, he projected that there will be an overload, especially during peak hours. For example, KCI noted that in 2023 there was passenger occupancy during peak hours.

“If there is no procurement of facilities, in 2026-2027 the occupancy rate will exceed 200%. This is an indication of overload,” he said.

As is known, in 2024, KCI recorded that out of 108 trainsets owned, there was a conservation of 19 trainsets. “And the number of our fleet this year until the end of the year will be only 89 trainsets from the operational needs of 101. So we are minus 12 trainsets,” he said.

Asdo said that in 2025, INKA will send 16 trainsets that will be completed and sent 12 trainsets in the second semester of 2025. The remaining four trainsets will arrive in 2026.

“We also import three trainsets that will come in the first semester of 2025 from China. We also do retrofit through INKA. These two trainsets will come in the second semester of 2025. We also add imports of eight retrofit trainsets that will come in the first semester of 2025 from China,” he concluded. (Z-2)
