Kadyrov announces the opening of the Prophet Jesus Mosque in the Chechen capital Grozny

Putin visited Chechnya for the first time in 13 years last Tuesday, and the Russian president accompanied Kadyrov to the new mosque. The mosque was opened on the anniversary of the birthday of the first president of Chechnya, the late Haji Akhmad Kadyrov, who would have been 73 years old.

“On the birthday of our first president, Hero of Russia Haji Akhmad Kadyrov, an important event was held for all residents of the republic. The most beautiful mosque with a capacity of 5,000 people opened its doors. The new mosque bears the name of the Prophet Jesus (peace be upon him) and is designed in the traditional Asian style,” Kadyrov said on his Telegram channel.

The Chechen governor noted that the construction of the mosque was financed by the regional public fund named after Haji Akhmad Kadyrov, and also explained that the total number of mosques in Chechnya is 1,468.

“Everyone in the republic can practice their religion without harassment or disrespect. The times when it was considered a crime are gone. Thank God for giving us this opportunity,” Kadyrov added.

On Tuesday, Putin inspected the mosque, accompanied by Kadyrov, Mufti of Chechnya and Chairman of the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of the Republic Salah Mezhiev, Advisor to the President of Chechnya on the Construction of Religious Facilities Amrodi Adil Gireyev and Mayor of Grozny Khas-Muhammad Kadyrov.

Ramzan Kadyrov wrote on Telegram following the mosque visit that he thanked President Putin for his attitude towards religious feelings, protection of holy books at the state level and preservation of traditional family values.
