Further decisions were made in the regular season of the ICE Hockey League on Tuesday. The KAC and the Vienna Capitals complete the top six and are early in the quarter-finals. The Carinthians showed no weaknesses with a 5-0 win at home once morest bottom Pioneers Vorarlberg. The Viennese benefited from a 2:3 defeat by Black Wings Linz at Fehervar. Leaders Bozen, champions Salzburg, Innsbruck and VSV had already bought their tickets beforehand.
The KAC made things clear early on. It was already 5-0 in the middle of the second period. Thomas Vallant and Rok Ticar each scored a goal and an assist for the home side. Vallant gave the “Red Jackets” the lead with a slightly deflected shot (5′). Before the first third break, Matt Fraser (10th) and Nikolaus Kraus (17th) increased to 3:0. After a goal by Jesper Jensen Abo (23′), Ticar made the final point (27′). In the third third, KAC managed the lead.
The seventh-placed Linzers have to be content with a place in the pre-play-offs. Goals from Brian Lebler (46′) and Logan Roe (54′), with which the Black Wings temporarily turned the game into a 2-1 lead in Hungary, were not enough in the end to win. Only such would have kept alive the chances of a place in the top six. In the fight for seventh place, Linz are four points ahead of Fehervar with one game more. The decision might be made in the next direct duel on Sunday.
Then the final of the basic round rises. Salzburg saved their chance to finish as the best team in the league with a 4-1 win at Olimpija Ljubljana. The second-placed defending champion is still four points behind Bolzano with two games to go. On Sunday there will be another duel between the two top teams in South Tyrol. The Graz99ers, among others, are fighting for a place in the pre-play-off of the teams in places seven to ten.
