JV: The Crew Motorfest, motorized tribulations in Hawaii

It was not easy to move on following The Crew 2. Released in 2018, Ubisoft’s previous racing game, despite some flaws, had dusted off the genre by allowing the player to indulge in virtually all motor sports, from boat to motorcycle to planes. With its successor, The Crew Motorfest, released last Thursday on Xbox, Playstation and PC, the French studio has nevertheless taken up the challenge, by offering an open world game in Hawaii that has been rather praised by critics.

Developed by the Lyon studio Ivory Tower, Motorfest has retained the arcade side of The Crew, which distinguishes it from the realism of Gran Turismo. The game therefore remains very simple to access and allows you to easily juggle between the new multiplayer modes and the single-player mode, mainly devoted to exploring the island of O’ahu. Very lively and exotic, the map has rightly been hailed as the strong point of this opus and allows players to extend their summer a little longer, between two motorboat tours.

This third episode is, however, not exempt from faults: maneuverability is not always obvious on vehicles other than cars and, in terms of gameplay, it suffers from comparison with Forza Horizon 5 (Xbox exclusive, released at the end of 2021 , but focused only on the car). But the quality of the Playlists (small campaigns on different themes, designed to guide the player) clearly allows it to be the best part of the series.
