Juve troubled by injuries ahead of restart

Juventus Turin, still awaiting the duration of the unavailability of its star rookie Paul Pogba, sees its infirmary fill up even before the resumption of the championship.

His American midfielder Weston McKennie and his French hopeful Marley Aké were in turn injured.

McKennie, already absent nearly three months last season following a broken foot, is suffering from left shoulder, the Italian club announced on its website on Monday. The American international will “begin his rehabilitation process” with an estimated duration of three weeks of “differentiated work”, indicates Juve.

McKennie should therefore miss the first two days of the championship once morest Sassuolo (August 15) and Sampdoria Genoa (August 22), while the midfielder of Juve is already deprived of Paul Pogba, severely injured in the right knee (lateral meniscus) during the Bianconeri preparation tour in the United States.

The midfielder of the Blues might miss the 2022 World Cup in Qatar (November 21-December 18) in the event of surgery. This would result in two to four months of absence depending on the type of operation (meniscectomy or suture).

Ake absent for two months

Juve will also have to do without the young Frenchman Marley Aké, 21, at the start of the season, who suffered a fracture in the fibula. The former Olympique de Marseille winger, at Juve since the start of 2021, will be absent for “regarding two months”, according to his club.
