Blick columnist Kubilay Türkyilmaz before the start of Serie A
“Juve becomes champion with noble reservist Zakaria”
Blick columnist Kubilay Türkyilmaz bets on Juve as Italian champions and predicts a difficult season for the Swiss in Serie A.
Italian football is antiquated and boring! Will you continue reading now if I destroy the product right at the beginning? Yes, of course, you want to know why I think this way…
In Italy only one thing counts: the result!
So: Italy lags far behind the big football nations in terms of stadiums and club organization. This is brutally reflected in the spectacle content and the quality of the game in Serie A. In England, Spain and Germany the philosophy is different. They also play there to entertain the people and not just for the result like in Serie A. Modern doers run most of the clubs there that aim to sell football. This is not (yet) the case in Italy, which is why a new generation is needed. The time of owner-presidents is over!
Triathlon Milan/Inter/Juventus
About the season: It is difficult to predict who will get the Scudetto at the moment because the transfer window is open until the end of the month. But if I take a snapshot, then I see Juventus back in front following two seasons without a championship title. The old lady has cleverly reinforced with Di Maria, Kostic and returnee Pogba. And that in a summer in which the large transfer movements in the boot have kept within manageable limits. Paredes and Depay are also likely to come. In January, Chiesa returns following tearing his cruciate ligament. So Juve is favorite number one! The contenders for the title will be last season’s two dominators, Milan and Inter.
Meanwhile, the clubs in the hottest cities, Rome and Naples, live too much from emotions to win a title. No wonder Juve/Milan/Inter have shared the title for 21 years. However: The Roma with coach José Mourinho and the stars Dybala, Wijnaldum and Matic will cause a spectacle, but will be inconsistent. Napoli, on the other hand, have lost too many strong players.
Zak am Limit
And the Swiss national players? I see them like this:
- Denis Zakaria (25): The quality at Juve will increase, which is why it will be tight for Zakaria’s level. He will have to eke out a reserve existence.
- Ricardo Rodriguez (29): He practically always performs. Is reliable and solid. He never gets a grade of 6. But always a 4 or 5. That’s how he disappears into anonymity.
- Michel Aebischer (25): He’s not present enough for me. In his first six months at Bologna, he never got beyond the role of a backup player. And that will remain so, because the team will not suddenly play ultra-offensive, which Aebischer is used to from YB.
