THE Supreme Leader of the Catholic Church worldwide and Head of State of the Vatican. Pope Francis will make an apostolic journey to the Asia Pacific region, including to Indonesia from Tuesday (3/9) to Friday (6/9).
The 10th and 12th Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia, Jusuf Kalla (JK) said that the arrival of Pope Francis was an honor for this country, so the Indonesian people must welcome his arrival well.
“Although the Catholic population is not very large in Indonesia, it is not a reason for Indonesia not to respect Pope Francis. Indonesian society must remain tolerant and appreciate the arrival of the leader of the World Catholic Church,” he said after becoming a resource person at the International Seminar on the Principles and Characters of Bugis-Makassar 4 Etos 4 Jusuf at the Ballroom of the Unhas Hotel Makassar, Monday (2/9).
For JK, his nickname, the arrival of the Pope will have a positive impact on the Indonesian nation. Because it will further strengthen interfaith relations and peace. “The Pope always encourages peace,” said the former Chairman of IKA UNHAS.
Pope Francis is expected to arrive at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport on Tuesday (3/9) 2024 at 11.30 WIB. Then on Wednesday (4/9), Pope Francis is scheduled to meet with President Joko Widodo at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta at around 10.00 WIB.
On the same day, Pope Francis is also scheduled to meet with government officials, the diplomatic corps, community leaders and civil society at the State Palace Hall.

Towards midday at around 11.30 WIB, the Pope held a private meeting with members of the Jesuit Society at the Apostolic Nunciature of the Vatican Embassy in Jakarta.
Then, at 16.30 WIB, the Pope is scheduled to meet with bishops, priests, deacons, religious men and women, seminarians, and catechists at the Church of the Assumption of Mary, Jakarta Cathedral Church.
In the afternoon at 17.35 WIB, Pope Francis will meet with young people from Scholas Occurantes at the Graha Pemuda Senayan Youth Center. (N-2)
