H&M has canceled a Justin Bieber-inspired collection following the singer called it “too shoddy”.
The 28-year-old star said he did not approve of the collection, which included T-shirts, jackets, bags and phone accessories.
After Bieber posted a story on Instagram, the singer called on people not to buy the collection, which he said was being sold without his permission or approval.
The company said it followed the correct procedures but has now closed the group.
“What H&M made and says it was inspired by me is very poor and I didn’t approve of it. Don’t buy it,” Justin wrote on his Instagram story on Tuesday.
“I did not agree with any of the contents of the range of goods they offered at H&M,” he added.
“All of this without my permission and approval. I wouldn’t buy it if I were you,” he said.
In a statement, H&M defended the line, which features images of Bieber. “As with all other licensed products and partnerships, H&M has followed appropriate approval procedures,” a company spokesperson said.
He added, “But out of respect for cooperation and Justin Bieber, we removed the clothes from our stores and from the Internet.”
And this isn’t the first time a star has attacked a brand for using his image without permission.
And in 2015, Rihanna won a lawsuit once morest Topshop, and succeeded in her lawsuit once morest the parent company for 3.3 million pounds, following Topshop sold a sleeveless shirt with her image.
And in 2019, Ariana Grande sued Forever 21 following it was alleged that she posted at least 30 “unauthorized” photos and videos implying she was in support of her brand.
H&M said it followed procedures but removed the collection “out of respect”.
Bieber is now on a break from his concert tours following revealing that he suffers from facial paralysis, following being diagnosed with Ramsay Hunt syndrome.
Ramsay Hunt syndrome occurs when an outbreak of herpes zoster affects the facial nerve near the ear, causing paralysis of parts of the face.
