Last Saturday, Kent Hughes appeared before the media to talk regarding Samuel Montembeault’s new contract. The latter signed a nice contract for himself and for the club.
But obviously, this is not the only subject on which the DG was questioned.
Among the subjects that came back to the table, there is that of progression. Because yes, progression in the rankings is important… but so is youth development.
And on this subject, the GM did not hesitate to say that Justin Barron was one of the young people whose progress is obvious this season.
It’s true that for a guy who didn’t play the first games of the season, he gained confidence. At the moment, due to the circumstances, it is difficult, if not impossible, to take him out of the top-4.
And Hughes is not the only one to notice that. In a text from TVA Sports, published by Jessica Lapinskiwe learn that Sportlogiq robots have also determined that Barron is the most improved this season (compared to last year) in Montreal.

This therefore confirms the eye test of the CEO, but also of the Canadian fans.
According to the statistics firm, out of 11 categories used to judge a defender, Barron improved in… 11 categories. So he is quite simply a better player than last year.
These categories deal in particular with passes in the offensive zone, blocked shots and one-on-one battles.
Remember that the Canadian defender has five goals (and three assists) in 22 games. He has therefore doubled his career goal production and he is one of the defenders who are helping CH not to look too bad in terms of goals this season.
Among the defenders, note that Kaiden Guhle also improved seven out of 11 facets of his game. Arber Xhekaj (5), who is now a member of the Rocket, and Jordan Harris (4), are slowing down a bit.
Among the attackers, Juraj Slafkovsky (11 in 12) ranks at the top of the rankings.
