Justice Yahya Afridi nominated as the new Chief Justice of Pakistan – Pakistan

It has been agreed to nominate Justice Yahya Afridi as the Chief Justice of Pakistan by the special parliamentary committee formed for the appointment of the new Chief Justice of Pakistan after the 26th constitutional amendment. Due to the boycott of the members of the Sunni Ittehad Council, the decision of the opposition members was taken by the parliamentary committee for the appointment of the new Chief Justice of Pakistan.

The PTI and Sunni Ittehad Council members announced a boycott of the meeting, after which other committee members tried to persuade the PTI but failed. The meeting which was later called at 4 pm started at 9 pm with PTI and Sunni Ittehad Council members present.

The 12-member committee consists of 8 members of the National Assembly and four senators. Members of the assembly included in the committee are PML-N’s Khawaja Asif, Ahsan Iqbal, Shaista Pervez Malik, People’s Party’s Raja Pervez Ashraf, Naveed Qamar, MQM’s Rana Ansar, PTI’s Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, Sunni Ittehad Council’s Sahibzada. Hamid Raza is included.

Besides, the committee also includes four senators, including PPP’s Farooq Hamid Naik, PML-N’s Azam Nazir Tarar, PTI’s Barrister Ali Zafar and JUI’s Kamran Murtaza.
