Justice Yahya Afridi excused from hearing Meesha Shafi harassment case

Supreme Court judge Justice Yahya Afridi has excused himself from being a part of the hearing of the petition filed by singer Misha Shafi once morest the decision of the Lahore High Court.

A 2-member bench headed by Justice Umar Atta Bandyal started the hearing, then his fellow judge Justice Yahya Afridi apologized.

In the Supreme Court, the hearing of the case related to singer Misha Shafi has been postponed indefinitely. Misha Shafi filed an appeal in the Supreme Court once morest the Lahore High Court’s decision of October 11.

The Lahore High Court had upheld the decision of the Women Ombudsman and the Governor. The Women Ombudsman gave a decision once morest Meesha Shafi in May and the Governor of Punjab in July 2018. The women ombudsman and the governor had declared Misha Shafi’s application as incompetent.

Misha Shafi has requested in the petition filed in the Supreme Court that the decision of the High Court should be annulled. Governor Punjab and Women Ombudsman and Ali Zafar have been made parties in the petition.

It may be noted that in 2018, singer Meesha Shafi had submitted a sexual harassment complaint once morest actor and singer Ali Zafar, which was rejected by the provincial ombudsman and later by the governor of Punjab on ‘technical grounds’.

Later, the singer decided to take the case to the High Court, challenging the Punjab Governor’s decision.

He had taken the stand in the petition filed in the court that the provincial ombudsman of Punjab dismissed the harassment petition once morest Ali Zafar, on which he appealed to the governor of Punjab once morest the decision of the provincial ombudsman and the governor of Punjab gave a decision contrary to the law. .

The singer had requested in the Lahore High Court that the court should annul the decision of the Governor of Punjab. Justice Shahid Karim of Lahore High Court also upheld the decision of Governor Punjab to reject the petition related to the harassment of Misha Shafi.

While the court also justified the decision to reject the request of Misha Shafi on behalf of the female ombudsman.
