Justice signed an agreement that will allow the export of products made by people deprived of liberty

Asunción, IP Agency.- The Minister of Justice, Rodrigo Nicora, signed a cooperation agreement with the textile company New Matrix SA, which exports to the Brazilian market, for the implementation of the “Sowing Hopes” project, which will employ the labor of people deprived of liberty (PPL ).

The agreement aims to generate professional training and employ women and men deprived of liberty from the “Juana María de Lara” Women’s Rehabilitation and Labor Reintegration Center and the Minga Guazú Social Reintegration Center, in the department of Alto Paraná, in the manufacturing of blankets and rugs, framed in the context of the New Penitentiary Model.

The maquiladora firm New Matrix SA operates under the export regime to Brazil, which is why a certain volume of articles made by the PPL could be marketed in the neighboring country.

In his speech after the signing of the agreement, Minister Nicora expressed his gratitude and complete satisfaction for the effort made by the entire team of the Ministry of Justice and the enormous contribution of New Matrix SA in joining in offering better conditions for the PPL.

“This is an evolution to society, of the contribution of a company that surely has its profit margin, but that surely seeks to offer something in return, to citizens and society,” he stressed.

“We value understanding the message we want to give, having clear lines and conditions so that you can work with us, being serious in the administration of the penitentiary system, offering alternatives for people deprived of liberty,” said Nicora.

Through the agreement, the Ministry of Justice will install the sewing workshop modules inside both prisons from the programs of the Directorate of Welfare and Social Reintegration, facilitating the penitentiary security mechanisms and arbitrating the necessary mechanisms contemplated in the Code of Justice. Criminal Execution.

It will also provide spaces for the installation of workshops in order to proceed with the installations and modifications to the infrastructure in the sectors selected for the development of activities.

For its part, the company will provide all the sewing machines and raw materials, establishing work contracts with the PPL under labor regulations, with economic remuneration for production, in strict compliance with legal provisions.

The president of New Matrix SA, Estanislao Franco de Olivera, and officials of the firm were present. Likewise, on behalf of the Justice portfolio, the Vice Minister of Criminal Policy, Víctor Benítez, attended; the general director of Penitentiary Establishments, Rubén Peña; the director of Welfare and Social Reintegration, Rosalía González, and officials of the institution.
