A man who sexually abused his partner’s daughter, whom he impregnated four times, must serve a long (although insufficient) sentence.
In view of the antecedents, the Oral Criminal Trial Court of Punta Arenas determined that the man will have to spend 17 years behind bars for these crimes and another 541 days for relevant physical abuse.
In a unanimous ruling, the court established that, since the victim was 12 years old (and until he was 25), he suffered attacks from the “jackal.”
During this period, the convicted man kept the woman locked inside a bunker-type house, restricting the victim from socializing even through social networks.
As detailed by El Pingüino, the young woman had 4 children with her abuser. The oldest of them received constant beatings from the subject, while the girls were also sexually assaulted.
They asked for more years
Although the Public Ministry requested a sentence of 36 years in prison, the court established that the sentence will only be extended for 17.
In this regard, prosecutor Wendoline Acuña commented that “the Oral Criminal Court of Punta Arenas informed us of the sentence regarding a trial we had last week for various crimes of a sexual nature and relevant bodily abuse. In this case, the events date back from 2005 to 2022, when the main victim of these events had been repeatedly sexually violated since she was 12 years old and as a result of these crimes she had given birth to 4 children.
“In addition, the accused was convicted of the crimes of sexual abuse with respect to two of those children resulting from the rape and for the crime of physical abuse relevant to another child of the victim. “The court communicated to us a single sentence of 17 years of maximum imprisonment for sexual crimes and the sentence of 541 days with respect to crimes of relevant bodily abuse that must be effectively served in the public jail of this city,” the persecutor sentenced.
It should be noted that the names of the victim and perpetrator are kept confidential for the protection of the young woman and her children.
How did it fall?
According to La Prensa Austral, it was in April 2022 when the victim’s son revealed at school that he was suffering abuse from his grandmother’s partner.
The complaint escalated to Family Court and the subject was removed from the home. From then on, the criminal investigation began, which concluded this week with the indicated sentence.
