French marathon record holder Morhad Amdouni will be tried for domestic violence in three months in Seine-et-Marne, we learned on Monday from the Meaux prosecutor, confirming information from the Parisian.
Other ongoing investigation
He is “under judicial supervision pending a hearing scheduled for February 24” for “acts of domestic violence committed between September 2023 and September 2024”, specified the public prosecutor Jean-Baptiste Bladier, at the judicial court of Meaux. “Another preliminary investigation concerning him is still in progress,” added the magistrate.
This French athlete, specialist in the 10,000 meters, was arrested on September 18 at his home in Seine-et-Marne and placed in police custody, according to a police source.
On February 18, Morhad Amdouni broke the French marathon record in Seville, Spain, by completing the 42.195 kilometers in 2 h 03 min 47 sec. The athlete, returning from an internship in Kenya, had shattered his own French record to finish second behind the Ethiopian Deresa Gelata and come very close to the European record in the discipline.
However, Morhad Amdouni withdrew from the men’s marathon at the Paris Olympics “following an injury to his right calf that occurred” during training.
