Justice Denied: The Mother’s Fight for Answers in a Tragic Benidorm Case

2023-08-18 07:31:00

She’s a mother, she doesn’t give up. Not feeling unfairly listened to by the Belgian judicial authorities and considering that they are doing nothing to shed light, Carine Duchesne, the mother of Dina – this young woman who fell from a cliff in Benidorm in troubled circumstances – decided to lodge a complaint once morest the Belgian State.

And it is his brother, André Duchesne, who speaks today. “First of all, we feel cheated by our lawyer, who had promised us that we would see an examining magistrate, he said. But that never happened. It’s a right for my sister (Editor’s note: Carine Duchesne therefore) than to know what happened to his daughter. However, last September, the Chamber of Council told us that for lack of elements, nothing allows to determine that it is regarding a murder. But she tries hard to say that it is a suicide. If we don’t have enough evidence to say that she was pushed off the cliff by her ex-boyfriend, what is the basis for saying that she committed suicide? We are not even given the benefit of the doubt…”

Because that’s where it gets stuck for the mother and her family. “Why do they say she committed suicide? What do they know?”repeats the Waremmian.

“We are prevented from accessing the investigation file”

What André Duchesne also deplores is that Belgian justice does not allow the family to consult the investigation file. “In criminal matters, we are denied access to the file, adds Dina’s uncle. There are still laws in Belgium. How can you leave a mother like that, without an answer regarding what happened to her child?

This is why a complaint will therefore be filed once morest the Belgian State, “Even if we’re told it won’t work, it doesn’t matter. My sister is wasting away and needs to feel that justice takes this case seriously. Because that’s the hardest thing for her, it’s to feel like nothing was ever done.”
