The latest game in the Need for Speed series has been praised by many critics, but two weeks following launch, Need for Speed Unbound is already on sale at 40% off on Xbox. This means that a normally $70 premium game is now only $42, with similar discounts available on Xbox platforms worldwide.
This sale is limited to Xbox as Steam, Epic, PlayStation, and even EA’s own store don’t provide the discount. The Steam Winter Sale starts next week, so maybe we’ll see new pricing then, but for now, Need for Speed Unbound is only available for cheap on Xbox.
Some fans on Reddit are concerned that this might be a sign that Unbound is having trouble: Gotham Knights has been cited as another premium game that went on sale shortly following release. It’s still too early to tell, though we can get a glimpse of Unbound’s success thanks to the Steam Charts’ peak player count of 14,000. Not that many.
Criterion is certainly not going to end with Unbound. In a series of tweets, developer Unbound promised “a series of post-launch updates and experience packs, as well as free access to new modes, social features and progression for Lakeshore Online.” The first update will focus on the social area, and subsequent updates will bring more cars, modes and features.
