Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp said he has already set his sights on next season and urged his team to use their remaining Premier League matches to prepare strongly.
Liverpool went through a disappointing run in the Premier League this season, as Klopp’s team ranks eighth in the standings with 47 points and 9 points behind fourth place, which guarantees qualification to the Champions League next season.
Klopp, who thrashed Leeds United 6-1 on Monday, has made tactical changes in recent weeks as the Merseyside side look to rebuild ahead of next season.
“The future has already begun to be thought about, let me say it this way, but since we are here we have to win games now,” Klopp told reporters on Friday.
He continued, “If we do not qualify for any European competition, that will obviously be a great disappointment, but we must make sure that we do not waste time during that period.”
“Hopefully we can take some things out of this season that are more useful than just knowing it went wrong,” he said.
Liverpool, who was knocked out of the Champions League round of 16 in March, hosts relegation-threatened Nottingham Forest later on Saturday.
