Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp announced, on Wednesday, that Mohamed Salah, the top scorer for the English Premier League team, is ready to play as a starter following a period of not starting matches due to an injury to his hamstring muscles.
Salah suffered an injury that prevented him from completing the African Cup of Nations with Egypt in January, and he was absent for a period from his English team before participating from the bench in the 1-1 draw with Manchester City, last Sunday.
Klopp said that Salah, who participated from the bench in the last two matches, is ready to participate primarily for the first time with Liverpool since last February.
Klopp told reporters: “I am not sure of his ability to participate in the 90 minutes, but he is ready to play from the beginning… He might have started in the last match. But I am not sure how many minutes he will participate. This is what happens when any player returns from injury.”
Klopp described the return of former club sporting director Michael Edwards to work as executive director of football operations as “great” news.
Edwards worked with Klopp when Liverpool won the Champions League in 2019 and the Premier League the following year.
Klopp, who will leave his position at the end of this season, said: “I am really happy… I have said many times that I want to see the club in the best possible place following I leave. Everything I can do while I am here I will do it. After that people will do what they have to do. I think that “This is the ideal solution (to the situation).”
Liverpool will host its rival, Sparta Prague, in the second leg of the European League round of 16, on Thursday, following beating it 5-1 in the first leg. He will also be a Alex Reed once morest Manchester United in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup, next Sunday.
Klopp said: “We need those who are best prepared for the match. We have to maintain the momentum and continue progress. And not think regarding next Sunday’s match, even if it is at Manchester United Stadium.”
He continued: “I just think that Prague wants to put things right. We have to play a good football match because it is in our home stadium… We have to win this competition (the Europa League), which requires that we advance in it as much as possible.”
