The JUNOS students emerged from this election with 9.01% and five mandates at federal level.
Vienna (OTS) – “Of course it hurts that we lost the sixth mandate at federal level. However, I am all the more pleased that we were able to achieve very good results at many universities. At the FH Campus we were able to achieve 21.39% and at the MCI, where we have had the ÖH chairperson for two years, we were able to achieve over 40%,” says Lukas Schobesberger, federal chairman, confident.
“It was important to us that we remain true to our values and demands and, unlike other lists, do not bend. We continue to show the solutions that are really needed, instead of aligning our demands with what is popular at the moment!” Schobesberger continues.
Communism x ÖH?
The two communist lists (KSV-LiLi and KSV-KJÖ) and the VSStÖ were both able to achieve a plus.
“Due to the shift to the left, an executive from VSStÖ, GRAS, KSV is assumed. Communists in government responsibility is an alarm signal that the center must not ignore,” says Schobesberger, concerned regarding the election victory of the left-wing extremist lists.
“It is now all the more our task to bring the ÖH back into the political center! We will see to that at JUNOS over the next two years. The students deserve it!” says Lukas Schobesberger.
Technical problems with the election
The election was marked by technical glitches and problems relating to the electronic election administration system (eWas).
“The breakdowns are numerous. The postal vote might not be applied for for weeks without any problems, the voter register was partly incorrect, the right of inspection and right of objection might only be granted very late, contrary to the ordinance, and during the election days the eWas was sometimes unavailable for hours or was sometimes completely down for several hours. During this time students who wanted to vote would have to be turned away. It’s a democratic-political scandal!”, Schobesberger admits shocked.
“We demand complete clarification in the eWAS cause! Under no circumstances should this scandal be swept under the rug and the durability of the election must also be closely monitored!” Schobesberger concluded.
