Wotschke: “Today’s pensioners have a right to fair and secure pensions. But who thinks about our generation and our pensions?”

Vienna (OTS) The NEOS boys reacted angrily to today’s press conference by the Senior Citizens’ Association, in which pensioner representatives Kostelka and Korosec called for improvements to the planned pension increase. “The statutory increase of 9.7 percent is an enormous amount; active employees can only dream of such wage increases. If we boys were to demand an additional bonus with a 9.7 percent salary increase, everyone would squeal that young people are incredibly rude these days. But the pensioner representatives are apparently allowed to do anything, want more and more and more and are getting more and more from this federal government,” says Federal Chairwoman Sophie Wotschke.

Once again, the Young NEOS are calling for a reorganization of the pension system. “After all, the statutory pension increase of 9.7 percent already costs more than 6 billion euros in additional tax money – who is supposed to pay for that? It all depends on us boys. Today’s pensioners have the right to a fair pension that adequately secures their earned income. “But our generation also has a right to ensure that their earned income is adequately insured and that we will still receive fair pensions in 50 years,” said Wotschke. “But the generational contract is broken year after year. Inaction in the pension sector is simply no longer acceptable for our generation. It’s time for a new generational contract.”

Reappoint the old age security commission

The JUNOS are also calling for a new appointment to the Old Age Security Commission, whose chairwoman is Ingrid Korosec. “For us it’s not about old versus young, but about young versus old politics – and that includes the top of the senior citizens’ association. Because anyone who thinks that civil servants with salaries of more than 5,850 euros are not luxury pensioners is shooting themselves out of existence,” said Wotschke in the direction of Korosec.
