Juno captures Io and Europa plots during its flyby of Jupiter

NASA released this view of Jupiter’s southern hemisphere taken by the Juno mission during its 39th close flyby of the planet. January 12.

Zooming in on the right side of the image, two other worlds are revealed in the same frame: the intriguing moons Io (left) and Europa.

Io is the most volcanic body in the solar system, while the icy surface of Europa is the most volcanic in the solar system. hides a global ocean of liquid water underneath.. Juno will have the opportunity to make much more detailed observations of Europa, using multiple scientific instruments, in September 2022, when the spacecraft makes the closest flyby of this enigmatic moon in decades. The mission will also approach Io in late 2023 and early 2024.

At the time this image was taken, the Juno spacecraft was regarding 61,000 kilometers from the top of Jupiter’s clouds, at a latitude of regarding 52 degrees south. Citizen scientist Andrea Luck created the image using raw data from the JunoCam instrument, NASA report.
