LONDON: Junior doctors in England will go on strike for the fifth time on August 11, declaring that they will not back down over a pay rise. There will be a strike for four consecutive days. The strike will begin at 7 am on Friday 11 August and will end at 7 am on Tuesday 15 August. The British Medical Association, which is leading the strike, has demanded a 35% pay rise. But the government has given a 6% hike this year. Next year it will increase to 9%.
Health Secretary Steve Barclay has announced that this is the final settlement and that there will be no more negotiations following the government’s salary increase decisions in the context of the re-announcement of the strike. But the BMA Junior Doctor Committee Co-Chairmen Dr. Robert Lawrenson and Dr. Vivek Trivedi also responded. She also criticized Chief Minister Rishi Sunak for saying that his decision is final even before the talks.
