This chronic skin pathology is estimated to be the third most common skin pathology, behind acne and fungal infections. One in three French people has already been confronted with it in their lifetime.
Eczema or atopic dermatitis, a disease with 1000 faces
Atopic eczema, atopic dermatitis, contact eczema, infant eczema, … there is no shortage of names to designate different forms of a very common skin pathology in France, eczema. It can occur from the first weeks of life and affect the life of babies and their parents, be linked to contact with an allergen in the workplace or even persist throughout life in a subject with atopic terrain.
Eczema, whatever the cause, can affect different parts of the skin, and combines red patches with very intense itching. Non-contagious, it can be very stigmatizing, especially when the affected areas are visible or when the disease affects an adolescent. When eczema is linked to an atopic site, the disease develops from childhood, and can persist into adulthood. It can also be associated with other pathologies of allergic origin, such as allergic rhinitis, asthma or even allergic conjunctivitis. There national eczema day is an opportunity to raise awareness regarding this pathology that is sometimes poorly understood by the general public.
National Eczema Day 2023, dedicated to the burden of disease
For this year 2023, the French Eczema Association has chosen as the theme of the national day ” Eczema, let’s fight together once morest isolation and discouragement “. Indeed, this cutaneous pathology, without particular seriousness, affects the personal, professional and social life of patients and their entourage. When children are affected at an early age, the period of adolescence can be particularly difficult. The national day will be marked by various events throughout France, and in particular in Paris, Marseille, Angers and Annecy. Intended both for the general public, patients and their families, but also for healthcare professionals, it will be supported by a communication campaign in the media and on social networks. Pharmagest network pharmacists will also be involved.
In Paris, a conference and three practical workshops will be led by eczema experts. In Marseille, Annecy and Angers, meetings will be held and a major “eczema game” treasure hunt will be organized to visit the city by taking up challenges and sharing experiences related to eczema. An event on eczema also relayed in the region
National Eczema Day will also be followed in the Auvergne Rhône Alpes region by another dedicated day which will take place on June 10, 2023 in Lyon. Registration is also compulsory on the following site: www.allergolyon.fr.
National Eczema Day serves several purposes. First of all, inform and raise awareness widely the population on an increasingly frequent pathology. In connection with environmental factors, specialists have observed a marked increase in the incidence of infant eczema in recent years. The national day is also an opportunity to take stock of current treatments, daily care, and advances in research in particular on new treatments already available or to come. June 3 is finally a privileged time to connect patients and professionals and to give tips for coping with illness daily.
