The head of the Progressive Socialist Party, Walid Jumblatt, affirmed, “I alone bear the burden of the past and its responsibilities.”
Jumblatt’s words came during a sentimental speech he delivered during the marriage of his daughter, Dalia Jumblatt, to Joy Pierre Al-Daher, on Friday evening at the Mukhtara Palace.
Jumblatt said during the ceremony: “A year ago, I think, they entered me, and I saw a question in their eyes, so I preceded them and said to them: When you decide, I am ready. Walk and do not be afraid. And so it was. And so it was completed.”
Jumblatt addressed Joey and Dalia, saying: “You may sometimes hear malicious or hurtful words in whispers through social sabotage or the like. Don’t bother. You are stronger and higher than the response and the future is for you.”
He also added: “I alone bear the burden of the past and its responsibilities, and I have done some revision… With Patriarch Sfeir, we concluded, under his patronage, here, reconciliation. I am ready for any further accountability or self-criticism if necessary. And whoever of you is without sin, let him stone her with a stone…
