Dar Al-Iftaa announced that today, Wednesday, is the first day of the month of Jumada Al-Awwal for the year 1445 AH, and the month of Jumada Al-Awwal is the fifth month of the Hijri calendar, and all the Arab months are masculine except for Jumada Al-Awwal and Jumada Al-Akhira, which are feminine.
Jumadayan was given this name during the reign of Kilab ibn Murra, the fifth grandfather of the Messenger, around the year 412 AD. Narrations state that the reason for naming this month with this name is that it coincided when naming it – it and Jumada al-Akhira – that the water was freezing in them due to the severity of the grinding; That is, extreme cold.
Among the Arabs were those who called the entire winter season Jumada, whether it happened that winter came there or elsewhere. It seems that the climate in the winter was very cold at the time when Jumadayan fell, especially in the north of the Arabian Peninsula, to the point that people were dying in the summer of winter, and it happened. It rained white-coloured hail on the country of Taima in Jumada al-Awwal of the year 226 AH, killing a large number of them.
It is worth noting that the Hijri lunar calendar is a lunar calendar that relies on the lunar cycle to determine the months, and is used by Muslims in dating. It was established by Caliph Omar bin Al-Khattab and made the migration of the Messenger of God, Muhammad bin Abdullah, peace and blessings be upon him, from Mecca to Medina on the 12th of Rabi’ al-Awwal (September 24, 622 AD). A reference to the first year in it, and this is the reason why it is called the Hijri calendar, but it is mainly focused on the lunar timetable, which God commanded in the Qur’an to follow according to verse 36 of Surat Al-Tawbah: “Indeed, the number of months with God is twelve months in the Book of God, on the day He created the heavens and the earth.” Of these, four are forbidden by that religion. So do not wrong yourselves therein, and fight the polytheists at all costs, just as they fight you at all costs, and know that God is with the righteous. (36) [التوبة:36] The four sacred months are lunar months, which are Rajab, Dhul-Qa’dah, Dhul-Hijjah, and Muharram, and because God called them the upright religion, Muslim imams have been keen since the beginning of the nation not to act except by them. Although the calendar was established during the Muslim era, the names of the months and the lunar calendar have been used since the days of pre-Islamic times. The first day of this calendar is Friday, Muharram 1, 1 AH (July 16, 622 AD).
