1973: Lillehammer affair: The Israeli Mossad special unit Caesarea murders the completely uninvolved Ahmed Bouchiki in Lillehammer because they believe him to be Ali Hassan Salameh, one of the masterminds of the Munich hostage-taking in 1972.
1988: Iranian revolutionary leader Ayatollah Khomeini agrees to UN-brokered ceasefire with Iraq.
2008: One of the most wanted suspected war criminals, former Bosnian Serb President Radovan Karadžić, is arrested in Belgrade. Karadžić, who was indicted by the UN tribunal in The Hague and might not be found for around 13 years, worked as a doctor in the Serbian capital under a false identity.
2008: With the adoption of a new constitution, the absolute monarchy in Bhutan has formally ended following 100 years.
2013: After the Dutch monarch, the Belgian king is also stepping down: following almost 20 years on the throne, 79-year-old Albert II signs the certificate of abdication in the royal palace in Brussels, and shortly therefollowing his 53-year-old son Philippe takes the oath of office in front of parliament.
