July 20th marks one of the most significant and endearing holidays on the calendar: Friendship Day. This date, which has gained popularity in Mexico and different Latin American countries, invites us to reflect on those special bonds that we choose to form, those that are built with laughter, tears, secrets and, above all, with a genuine affection that transcends time and distance.

Friendship Day has its roots in an initiative by Argentine Enrique Ernesto Febbraro, who, inspired by the arrival of man on the Moon in 1969, saw in this milestone a symbol of unity and hope for all humanity. Febbraro sent thousands of letters to different countries, proposing July 20 as a day to celebrate friendship; his idea found an echo, and thus was born this beautiful tradition that is today celebrated in many corners of the world.

In our digital age, where virtual connections are commonplace, Friendship Day takes on a special dimension. Whether through a phone call, a text message, a video call or, better yet, a face-to-face meeting, this day gives us the opportunity to express to our friends how much they mean to us.

Some choose to exchange gifts, others prefer to gather together to share a meal, and many simply hug each other and say “thank you.” However, what is important at the end of the day is the gesture, the act of remembering and honoring those people who accompany us on the journey of life.
