Officially, CSD Zacapa informed Julio César Laínez that he is no longer going to coach the institution. This decision was made by the board of directors of the team from the eastern part of the country following the coach headbutted and punched his player Diego Ruiz during the match between Zacapa and Comunicaciones on April 3.
Tempers were already hot in the match played at the David Ordóñez Bardales stadium following referee Christofer Corado sent off Juan Luis Anangonó and goalkeeper Fredy Pérez in Comunicaciones. After the second player left the field, Laínez rebuked him and they insulted each other, but the whistler only showed her a yellow card.
A few minutes later, Laínez took Diego Ruiz off the field and he did not hide his annoyance at the change. It was at that moment that the coach approached him and gave him a headbutt and then punched him.
The incident did not escalate further thanks to the intervention of the rest of the Zacapa squad and the red card that the referee showed him.
The images of the sequence were recorded in a video of the television broadcast of the match, so the evidence was clear. One day following what happened, the JD of Zacapa informed him that they would no longer have him as helmsman of their institution, despite the fact that the roosters are currently fighting to save the category.
The Brazilian Gerson Voss will be the one who will take the responsibility of directing Zacapa in the three remaining games of Clausura 2024.
In addition to losing his job, Laínez is exposed to a sanction by the Disciplinary Body of the National League of at least 6 months and a financial fine.
