Juliane Snekkestad speaks out in a podcast

Juliane Snekkestad speaks out in a podcast

– In recent years, I have worn a facade and such a glossy image that things are so perfect and nice when it has actually been quite so cruel, she says in the podcast of influencer Helle Nordby, “Chit Chat with Helle”.

This is the first time Snekkestad has spoken publicly since August. She then accused Høiby of violence after it became known that he had been arrested and charged with violence against his then girlfriend.

– The first thing I thought was “I have to go out and say something”. I thought that this girl is not going to be believed unless more people tell about what they have been through with him, says Snekkestad, who published a post on social media where she accused Høiby of psychological and physical violence.

– I tried to make it gentle and soft, but between the lines there is quite a lot, she says.

Demanding with questioning

She describes the time after as fierce.

– I understood the consequences of that and was prepared for a lot of media coverage, and that I would be called in for questioning, but I don’t think I was prepared for how big it was going to be.

Snekkestad describes the interrogations as demanding.

– The only thing I can do is tell my subjective experience. But it is very demanding to go through it again.

Snekkestad has the status of aggrieved in the case against Høiby. He is being investigated for abuse in close relationships under Section 282 of the Criminal Code. Høiby is charged with having used violence against Snekkestad over a period of around four years.

Crown Princess Mette-Marit’s son denies criminal guilt, according to his defender Øyvind Bratlien.

Didn’t say anything

The relationship between Snekkestad and Høiby became known in early 2018. About four years later, she confirmed that the relationship was over.

Nordby asks how she got out of the relationship.

– I don’t think I should answer that. I would like to, but at the present time it is not appropriate to answer that question.

Snekkestad further says that it took time for her to understand that what she was exposed to was not okay.

– It took time and it still takes time. I don’t think I’m quite there yet, she says.

She says she didn’t tell friends and family until the relationship was over.

– They had suspicions. If it had come as a bolt from the blue, it might have come as a bigger shock. But it probably wasn’t a shock to that many.

Accused of violence

On Wednesday, defense attorney Øyvind Bratlien stated that Marius Borg Høiby had accused Snekkestad of violence in a police interview.

– Borg Høiby has explained himself about three turbulent relationships where he obviously takes his share of the responsibility for it being so. He has explained in the interrogations about abuse in close relationships from at least one of the offended ladies, Bratlien told NTB.

Snekkestad’s assistant lawyer rejects the accusations completely.

– My client rejects this completely. It is information that is difficult for her to take in, aid lawyer Petter Grødem told NTB.
