Julian Assange: Court allows appeal against his extradition to the US VIDEO – 2024-07-10 13:20:45

The High Court of England has indeed given Julian Assange the green light to appeal his extradition to the United States.

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange’s battle to avoid extradition to the United States received a major boost today as the High Court in London ruled that the assurances of USA for his case are not satisfactory and that Assange will be allowed to appeal, which will be fully considered.

In March, the said court had temporarily allowed the 52-year-old Assange to proceed with the appeal. But it gave the US a chance to provide satisfactory assurances that it would not seek the death penalty and would allow him to invoke his First Amendment right to free speech at trial.

In a brief ruling, two high-ranking judges announced that the assurances given by the US were insufficient and added that they would allow Assange’s appeal to proceed, APE-MPE reported.

The Julian Assange case

Assange is facing prosecution by US justice for bringing to light since 2010 more than 700,000 confidential and classified documents relating to US military and diplomatic activities, especially in Iraq and Afghanistan.

According to iefimerida, he is at risk of up to 175 years in prison if extradited and convicted.

In April, the American president Joe Biden said that Washington is “considering” a request by the Australian government to enter into the file the prosecution of Assange for espionage.
