Julia Mengolini expressed a heartfelt reflection on the trial of the rugby players and ignited the debate

After the trial and subsequent conviction for the crime of Fernando Báez Sosa, the journalist Julia Mengolini used her social networks to express a heartfelt message.

“It’s been three years since we hated ‘the rugby players’ who killed Fernando Báez Sosa. Yesterday should have been a day of relief and yet it didn’t feel that way to me. The trial was taking on a spectacular dimension in the heat of the media morbidity with the special participation of the ineffable Burlando ”, he began.

And he added: “Every day that passed we hated the rugby players more, with each testimony we felt more sorry for the death of Fernando and the social thirst for revenge grew. Thus, even the progressives, entered into the punitive logic that Blumberg (yesterday present at the reading of the sentence) proposed to us many years ago and which led to increasingly harsh criminal laws and consequently out of scale.

Then, the founder of Futurock radio reflected on the sentences received by Fernando’s 8 murderers. “If we give life to life to some young people who killed another (horrible murderers, obviously), what is left for a genocide? The same penalty. It’s weird, isn’t it? Will this be an exemplary sentence? Hopefully the example becomes that the levels of violence in the nightclubs drop and not that the judges hand out life sentences more and more easily ”, she indicated.

And finally, he pointed out: “I always felt very sorry for Fernando’s mother. Yesterday I felt compassion for the mothers of the eight murderers. They are going to die and their sons are going to stay in jail. And when they come out (if they come out) they won’t be better. Yesterday was a sad day.”

The publication was filled with repercussions that divided the waters. Some comments endorsed and shared his words, being able to discern the murder itself with the situation of a young man who already knows at an early age that he will spend the rest of his life in jail and even how that affects his mothers.

On the other hand, there were also relentless comments from those who believe that if they had no mercy at the time of killing Fernando, the sentence is well applied and that they deserve it.
