It forced me to tap into my creativity in a way I never had before, because basically, I was acting blind – no makeup, no costume, no hair. I had to envision the entire character from scratch.

Julia Garner: It was interesting, yes. It felt like I was constantly auditioning, which was quite liberating in a way. I had to commit 100% to the scene right then and there, as there were no distractions. It was just me, the lines, and the sheer joy of acting.

Archyde News: The silver Surfer is a character shrouded in mystery. What drew you to this role?

Julia Garner: Oh, absolutely. the mystery is what made this role so alluring to me. I’ve always been fascinated by the unknown, and the Silver Surfer is a character that leaves much to the imagination. Plus, it felt like a departure from anything I’ve done before. I’ve played humans, after all, and here I was, playing an otherworldly being. It was invigorating.

Archyde News: Speaking of the Silver Surfer’s otherworldly nature, we understand that the character’s design is heavily influenced by Norrin Radd, its origin story from the comics. How did that influence your interpretation?

Julia Garner: Well, knowing the comic book roots was definitely a guiding light for me. I wanted to honor the character’s journey and growth. But simultaneously occurring, I had the freedom to bring my own interpretation to the role. It’s a balance, really, between respecting the source material and making the character your own.
