Julan Goswami hits record in women’s ODI cricket

Mumbai: Indian pacer Julan Goswami has become the first woman to take 250 wickets in women’s ODI cricket. Goswami broke England opener Tommy Beaumont’s record in the ODI World Cup. Goswami is followed by Australia’s Katherine Fitzpatrick and Windies’ Anisa Mohammad with 180 wickets.

However, the match once morest England was a disappointment for the Indian women’s cricket team. England women beat India by four wickets at Bay Oval. Batting first, India were all out for 134 in 36.2 overs. England chased down the target by 135 runs in the first and final overs but lost six wickets in 31.2 overs.

Only four Indian women batted first and crossed the two-wicket mark. Opener Smriti Manthana scored 35 runs while Harmanpreet Kaur, who was in good form in the previous matches, scored 14 runs. Wicketkeeper Richa Ghosh tried to hold on with 33 runs but to no avail. At the tail end, pacer Julan Goswami scored 20 runs. Captain Mithali Raj was out for just one run.
