The proposed draft of amendments to the constitution of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) has come to light, JUI has proposed 24 amendments to the constitution.
According to the draft, the JUI has proposed amendments to Article 38, Article 175A, Article 243, Article 230 and Article 203 of the Constitution.
The draft proposes the abolition of all forms of usury from January 1, 2028 and mandates the approval of the Islamic Ideology Council for any legislation introduced in the four provincial and both houses.
The JUI has suggested that an Islamic monetary policy system be introduced in the country, along with a complete repeal of the 19th Amendment and a complete restoration of the 18th Amendment.

According to the draft JUI, the Constitution Bench will have jurisdiction over constitutional disputes or interpretation. It has also proposed to constitute constitutional benches in the Supreme Court and High Courts.
The draft includes a proposal to form a bench of five senior judges including the Chief Justice in the Supreme Court, while a constitutional bench of three senior judges including the Chief Justice is proposed in the High Courts.
According to the draft, the appeal against the decisions of the Provincial Constitutional Bench will be in the Supreme Court Constitutional Bench.

It may be noted that JUI has submitted its proposed draft to the special committee of Parliament. Senator Kamran Murtaza says that the only difference between the People’s Party and our draft is the Constitutional Court and the bench. We have no objection to any other point.
