The quest for a double Olympic qualification in 2028, both in judo and rugby sevens, is taking shape for Amandine Buchard. The bronze medalist in Paris has just signed up with the Stade français club to lead this double project. Amandine Buchard, six-time world medalist in judo, “joins the Judo section of the Stade Français omnisport and the Rugby section” explains the club in a press release, adding that the Stade français “will support her humanly, sportingly and financially”.
“Since our first discussions, the club immediately showed sincere interest in my dual project, combining my passions for judo and rugby,” explained the athlete, quoted in the club press release.
From PSG to the French Stadium
Individual silver medalist in Tokyo and bronze in Paris in the -52 kg category, the 29-year-old judoka announced this summer after the Olympics that she wanted to lead a double project with a view to Los Angeles 2028, by lining up both in judo than in rugby sevens. Amandine Buchard, who played rugby in her youth, left the PSG judo section this summer, with whom this project was not compatible, she then explained.
She will play part of the season with the Rugby Club of Noisy-le-Grand – Marne-la-Vallée, in Federal 2 (4e division), a partner club of Stade français with which she started playing last weekend. “She will have a double license allowing her to also play with the Pink Rockets”, the women’s team at Stade Français, specifies the club. Amandine Buchard “will therefore benefit from the sports infrastructure at Jean Bouin and will soon begin her first training sessions” with the Pink Rockets.
The Pink Rockets are playing in Elite 2, the 2e nationally, after being relegated last year. The team includes two players from the French rugby sevens team who participated in the Games in Paris, Anne-Cécile Ciofani and Camille Grassineau.
