In recent days, the French actress has spoken out more frequently to testify about her relationship with the director, when she was still a teenager. “The little girl in me can no longer keep quiet about this name,” she posted on Instagram last weekend.
“It made me sick”: this Monday, Judith Godrèche spoke, with tears in her eyes and a tight throat, on the set of Daily. She was reacting to the extract from a 2011 documentary broadcast on social networks, in which director Benoît Jacquot talks about their relationship.
At the time, he was 40, she was 14 (15, according to the director). “It was clearly a transgression,” he admits in the video archive, before adding “but she didn’t give a damn about that (…), it excited her a lot, I would say.”
The French actress, disgusted, then decided to speak publicly. She denounced on Monday on social networks the support that Benoît Jacquot enjoys in the cinema industry.
“The little girl in me can no longer keep silent about this name,” she said, in a message posted on Instagram last weekend, deleted before being put back online on Monday, where she speaks of “control” and “perversion”.
This new testimony comes in the midst of a divide in French cinema caused by star actor Gérard Depardieu, indicted for rape and widely criticized after the broadcast of images in which he multiplies misogynistic remarks.
Not a secret
On the occasion of the broadcast of his series “Icon of French cinema” on the Arte television channel at the end of December, the director, now 51 years old, had already mentioned this relationship with the French filmmaker 25 years her senior. But until now, she had never so explicitly questioned the director.

Initially, Judith Godrèche wanted the series not to be overshadowed “by the name of this person”. It was watching the interview with Benoît Jacquot that caused the shock, explains the actress in the show Quotidien.
“To see him transform me into an object, speak in my place, speak of my desire, it was so violent,” says the actress in a stammering voice. She also explains that she “started shaking” and “vomited”.
“Esteemed for his perversion”
“He threatens to take me to court for defamation,” says the actress in her story posted on Instagram, believing that the filmmaker is “esteemed for his perversion”.
“Who has esteem for BJ’s practices? Known to everyone for 35 years? Who endorses and validates? The agent who represents him? (…) Where does this feeling of impunity come from? Everything was known. And the same people are on the maneuvers,” she continues, saying she fears that people will “turn their backs” on her after these comments.
