After the deadline for the Generalitat to voluntarily apply the ruling of the Superior Court of Justice of Catalonia (TSJC) that requires 25% of classes to be taught in Spanish in all schools in Catalonia, the constitutionalist parties and entities have launched an offensive judicial to demand the forced execution of the ruling and claim criminal responsibilities once morest the Minister of Education, Josep Gonzàlez-Cambray. The Hablamos Español platform has requested the execution of the sentence on different fronts. On the one hand, through a lawsuit filed on behalf of their own organization, on the other through another on behalf of the Federation of Associations of Fathers and Mothers (AMPAS) created for this purpose and also in collaboration with the civil guards and national police stationed in Catalonia, which, as this newspaper revealed on Sunday, were the first to demand that the TSJC force the Generalitat to end the linguistic immersion system. On Wednesday, this front will be joined by another collective lawsuit Escuela de Todos, the conglomerate of associations headed by the Assembly for a Bilingual School of Catalonia, which, since the 25% ruling was made public, has gathered the support of more than 1,500 families to demand that all students in Catalonia can take one more core subject per week in Spanish, as dictated by the TSJC ruling, declared final by the Supreme Court. In parallel, Ciudadanos has already filed a complaint with the Prosecutor’s Office once morest the Minister of Education of the Generalitat, as well as once morest other officials of his Ministry for considering that he has incurred in an alleged crime of prevarication “by avoiding complying with the sentence of 25% of Spanish”. Cambray sent a letter to the High Court on Friday in which he argued that his way of fulfilling the sentence passed through the agreement signed between ERC, the PSC, the comuns and Junts -which finally got out of the pact-, by which the Catalan law on language policy to introduce an indefinite reference to Spanish, to promise that “it will also be used in the terms established by the linguistic projects of each center”. However, this legal modification – still in process – avoids committing to teach a specific percentage of hours in Spanish, as required by the court ruling. The government ignores Faced with the manifestly disobedient will of the Generalitat, both the constitutionalist parties and entities are also pressuring the Government of Pedro Sanchez to formally demand the execution of the sentence from the Catalan Administration, something that at the moment it does not plan to do. Sources from the Ministry of Education have told this newspaper that they are not going to make any move yet. Once the proposal is received [de la Generalitat] the TSJC has to say if it seems enough. We continue in the times of Justice. The Government respects them and respects both the sentences and the judicial independence,” added the same sources.
