A judge has been found guilty of sexually assaulting six young men in Dublin. Gerard O’Brien, 59, from Thurles, Tipperary, has been found guilty. He has been found guilty of a sex crime committed at the age of 30. Gerard is also a former State Solicitor. He suffers from phocomelia and is missing two arms and one leg.
He sexually exploited six people while working as a teacher in a secondary school. He molested people between the ages of 17 and 24. Between March 1991 and November 1997, these youths came forward with a complaint once morest the judge. There were nine cases once morest the accused. The complaint is that five of the six youths were raped in their sleep and one in the toilet. Reports also say that he sexually exploited the youth by giving them alcohol and other things. Three of those he tortured were students and the other three were locals.
The accused used to bring a student to his house and tortured him there. However, the scared boy immediately ran away from there. Then he told this information to his mother. Later, a complaint was also filed with the principal. Among his victims was a Junior Certificate student he met in the school musical class. It was in a pub that Gerard tried to molest the student.
At first Gerard denied any wrongdoing and denied everything. However, he later changed his mind and testified that it was consensual sex. However, he was found guilty in the trial held in the Central Court. He was found guilty in a seven-and-a-half-hour trial by a ten-member jury. He will be sentenced on March 4.
