A federal judge in Mexico ordered this Friday preventive detention for the purpose of extradition once morest Ovidio Guzmán López, son of Joaquín ‘el Chapo’ Guzmán, who must remain in the maximum security prison of the Altiplano while the process lasts to send him to the United States, reports the local press.

Ovidio Guzmán, alias ‘el Ratón’, was arrested this Thursday in Sinaloa and later transferred to the Altiplano prison, in the state of Mexico. Following his arrest, a federal judge temporarily suspended any attempt to extradite the criminal leader to the US.

At a press conference this Friday, the Mexican government reported that, since September 2019, the United States submitted to the Foreign Ministry a request for the provisional detention of Guzmán López for extradition purposes for alleged drug crimes.
Pending the development of this process, the son of “Chapo” was arrested for crimes committed in flagrante delicto, although there are open investigations for crimes once morest health and possession of firearms.
