Judge deliberates on request for house arrest for former President of the Republic, Lenin Moreno – Diario La Hora

The judge of the Criminal Chamber of the CNJ, Adrián Rojas, will issue his resolution this Sunday, March 5, 2023 at 4:00 p.m.

The interventions of the lawyers that sponsor the 37 defendants in the Synohidro case (Ina Papers) concluded.

At 8:53 p.m. this Friday, March 3, 2023, Adrián Rojas, judge of the National Court of Justice (CNJ) left the room to deliberate on the request of Diana Salazar, head of the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) to order preventive detention against the accused in the alleged crime of bribery.

Judge Adrián Rojas will issue his resolution this Sunday, March 5, 2023 at 4:00 p.m.

For almost five hours, all the lawyers presented elements of conviction in favor of their clients and asked the judge to dismiss the request of Prosecutor Salazar.

In order to guarantee the appearance at the following stages of the criminal process, the Prosecutor requested preventive detention for 37 investigated persons. However, for 14 of them who are over 65 (elderly) she requested to replace this measure with house arrest. Among them, Lenin Moreno, his wife, Rocío González; Conto Patiño (close to Moreno), Cai Runguo, former Chinese ambassador to Ecuador, among others.

The hearing to formulate charges for the alleged crime of bribery against the former President of the Republic, Lenin Moreno, and 36 other people was installed after 09:15 on Friday, March 3, and concluded around 09:00 p.m. (SC)
